When the environment is really uncertain, rest
Jan 23, 2025When the environment is really uncertain, we need more recovery time to resource ourselves so that we can then go back out.
I have a border collie and she’s quite exceptional. There’s two kinds of border collies, one that just rounds up all the sheep but doesn’t really care how anxious the sheep become in the round up, and then there’s another border collie that’s really special. They really take care of the emotional well being of the sheep as they round them up, it takes longer but the process is so that every sheep or lamb actually gets to be herded in a way that doesn’t cause anxiety. My border collie, Ocean, has an extraordinary sensitivity to human beings. She’ll spend a certain amount of time with human beings, unconsciously regulating their nervous system and then she’ll spend hours and hours up on my bed asleep: “I have enough human, so I’m going to go away now and retreat and recover.”
In an environment that’s very intense, we do need a lot more rest time because in stillness you can receive and restore your energy field.
