Actors, look to the natural world. In many ways, the greatest artist we have is the natural world. 

When actors work with me, I spend a lot of time asking them to work with something called "orientation" to find in the world around them what feels pleasurable, easy, good and this becomes really important building a relationship in this way with an environment that the actor understands for them feels good, safe, pleasurable, enjoyable and most of the time my actors will look to the natural world.

This becomes important because it is the most regulating experience we have for our nervous systems. So if you're in an intense job, whether you are surrounded by a natural environment or you have to close your eyes at the end of a long day on set and you imagine a place that you have an association with that feels good and pleasurable.

This kind of work becomes crucial to bring your nervous system into rest and digest after a very intense day. A film set can be a very intense environment yet you, as the actor, the heart of it, have to remain vulnerable and open. In order to remain vulnerable and open, it's very important to feel like you can trust where you are.

What I encourage you to do is, no matter where you are, discover with your eyes, with your ears, with your sense of touch what it is that feels good and safe to you so that you can alter like water from one place to the next. From one film set to the next. From one location to the next, in a relationship in a way that feels resourcing.
