One of the most profound places to develop a relationship with is the natural world

Between jobs, one of the most profound and nurturing places the actor can develop a relationship with is the natural world.

Why? For many reasons It is the greatest mirror we have.It is constantly transforming, constantly changing. In Ireland, we have four seasons.

So how I structure my life as an artist in autumn, in winter, in summer and spring will be very different. I feel very reflective in autumn and winter and really once those really dark days come I may feel more inspired to write. Even how I schedule may even be slightly different to when I go into spring and summer. So the time, the time clock, the rhythm that I wish to work off is more in relationship to the natural environment. On a cosmological and planetary level as well that the greatest gift we can give ourselves right now in relation to
climate change and in relation to the planet is to develop our relationship with the natural world. And if we develop a relationship with the natural world like two lovers then you’re going to innately,intuitively, impulsively wish to take care of it.

The natural world is ferocious.It’s made of all kinds of elements from earth, water, fire, air that also live within us. And the alchemy of that is something that we as artists, as co-creators are constantly working with.

The true nature of the actor can really be mirrored in the natural world and that can be a profound resource for you as the actor.

This work is slow, steady, practised based work because so much distracts us from it.
